Testing and Treatments

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)

are infections that are spread through sexual contact. They can be caused by bacteria, viruses, or parasites. STDs can have a range of symptoms, from mild to severe, and can be treated with antibiotics or other medications. It is important to get tested for STDs if you are sexually active, as some STDs can cause long-term health problems if left untreated.

Symptoms:

▸ Unusual discharge from the penis or vagina
▸ Painful urination
▸ Pain during intercourse
▸ Abnormal bleeding
▸ Itching or burning in the genital area
▸ Sores, bumps, or blisters in the genital area

When to Call a Doctor:

If you experience any of the above symptoms, it is important to see a doctor as soon as possible. Additionally, if you have had unprotected sex or multiple sexual partners, it is important to get tested for STDs even if you do not have any symptoms.
